The A-Z of 2011 (Part 2)

Tune of the year

Proudest moment of the year
Getting the announcement of my new entry in the DJ Mag top 100
New Years Resolution
Spending more time in the studio
Helena
Australia’s queen of clubs
Tune of the year
For me the tune of the year is probably ‘Calling’ by Sebastian Ingrosso + Alesso, I just love the energy in this track and the epic chords and breakdown, it's killer. It has definitely been a strong favourite in my sets this year
Artist of the year
Artist of the year I would say is Calvin Harris, everything he does seems to be a worldwide smash, to say he is killing it would be an understatement. He has crossover yet still manages to remain 'cool' that in itself is an achievement
Villain of the year
I would say Charlie Sheen takes this title hands down, he dominated the headlines of 2011. Naughty boy has caused a fair few scandals, pretty entertaining though. What a hero / tool
New Years Resolution
Where do I begin?! To get back to Ibiza, I've been away far too long and it's killing me, to release killer productions all year, to stop losing all my socks, keep my bedroom tidy, have more pool parties and stop eating so much take out
Plans for 2012
I have just signed my first single – ‘Girl From Outta Space’ which is coming out early 2012 on One Love / Sony BMG and I’m currently working on my second release now. So now my aim is just to deliver quality and consistent tracks into the market and build my profile and develop my sound even more as a producer. So look out!

Proudest moment of 2011

Human Life
Wherever they are, we are…
Tunes of 2011
Forward Motion – ‘Hot Natured’
Forward Motion was just a very special track for Human Life this year...really great bassline and vocal but the lyrics are what made this the top track for us...a Space anthem!
Your Everything - Danny Daze
From the first time we heard 'Your Everything' we KNEW it was a bomb. It works in all types of situations and with all types of crowds; it’s really essential for us to have a track like this that can turn heads, especially when we’re starting our set after someone playing way too aggressively!

Miguel Campbell - Something Special
This track is just so sexy and the deep house meets French touch vibe is perfect

James Masters
Hacienda Records head honcho
Tune of the year
Humanizer ‘Arthur Brown Gets Me Down’ / Richie G ‘Baum Auf Vier Zwei’ / Section 25 ‘Colour Movement Sex And Violence’ / The Virgo Mechanically Replayed ‘Through The Door’

Gig of the year
Prince at The Hop Farm

Artist(s) of the year
The Muppets

Villain(s) of the year
David Cameron, Theresa May, George Osborne, Nick Clegg, William Hague, Iain Duncan Smith, Baroness Warsi, Michael Grove, Caroline Spellman, Andrew Lansley, and the appropriately named Jeremy Hunt.

New Years Resolution
Don’t have one, never make em, so don’t break ‘em.
Proudest moment of 2011
Giving some really good artists a break. Getting to put out the first ever full album from my old friend and sparring partner, the ever talented and sometimes under-rated Jon Dasilva, The Virgo Mechanically Replayed’s excellent ‘Factory Fatigue’ - something we’d discussed for years and was personally highly satisfying and even cynical old me, was very touched.

A breath of fresh air on the dancefloor…
Tunes of the year
4th Measure Men - 4 You (Maya Jane Coles Remix)
This record was a highlight at the beginning of 2011. Maya delivered a perfect tribute to a classic record, while still managing to make it her own. The haunting melody and vocal suit her style perfectly, and this mix put her well and truly on the map

Ridney - Good Shout
Personally this is my favourite track Ridney has released, and probably my most played of 2011. The bassline is rolling and funky, and always gets a great dance floor reaction, the way it builds, its almost relentless, but wickedly groovy

Midland - Through Motion
This record is beautiful, it has subtle pianos, vocals and so much atmosphere. It's almost under produced, which makes it even cooler. The vocal "You start to believe your own lies" adds an emotional edge, while delivering quite a real message. The breakdown wouldn't be out of place in a movie score either. Midland is another up and coming UK artist with so much soul in his music

Gig of the year

Tune of the year
My tune of the year is without doubt Wolfgang Gartner ‘Space Junk’

Gig of the year
This year’s best gig is a very difficult one. I very lucky to have so many but if I had to choose one it has to be Kendal Calling. One word. Magnificent
Artist of the year
This year has seen so many incredible artists shine through; Wolfgang Gartner, Kill The Noise, Camo & Krooked, Porter Robinson, Dirtyphonics & Jay Robinson but my obvious choice is Skrillex, he really has the midas touch
Villain of the year
There are not really any villains in my eyes as the people I work with etc. are all really cool and I stay away from the menaces. But there has been some awful collaborations with big Hip Hop acts this year that have certainly disappointed me to say the least
New Years Resolution
Keep on putting out the best music I can on my label Instant Vibes. Do as many DJ mixes and touring as usual but most importantly keep focused work hard, play less and get in the gym. Maybe simple but that's the way it will be for me next year

Luke Walker
The bass heavy house, techno and electro boy from New Zealand ripping it up around the world…
Tune of the year
It would have to be The Aikiu – ‘Red Kiss’ (Brodinski remix). It’s big low slung kick and aggressive techno synths are tempered by this sexy, understated vocal. I love how the anticipation builds the whole track and you finally get the release with the vocal
Gig of the year
Playing the open air Laterazza club in Barcelona to 1000 people for Ministry of Sound was definitely up there. They have such great taste in music in that city and their energy is amazing
Artist of the year
It’s tough but I'd say Green Velvet. He’s made some of my biggest bombs of the year (Millie Vanillie, Michael Jackson) and I remixed his track with the Japanese Popstars ‘Let Go’. His music has an offbeat, fun element to it but it’s still tough and jacking. So many artists are doing exciting things this year; Attaque, Eats Everything, CSY & Stripes, Brodinski & Justin Martin are all big for me....
Villain of the year
LMFAO. I think overall it's a good thing having electronic influences in the pop charts but the downside is people requesting this stuff in completely inappropriate clubs. It gets tiring...
